IRELAND: Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has stated that he believes a 'no deal
Brexit' is a risk "we all need to plan for".
- Donohoe referring to the potential for the UK to leave the 'transition period'
at the end of 2020 without an FTA in place, reverting to a WTO trade schedule
with the EU.
- His comments come days after the UK released its command paper on the Northern
Ireland/Republic of Ireland protocol included in the Withdrawal Agreement.
- The UK paper seemed to confirm that there would be some customs checks on
goods going from the rest of the UK to Northern Ireland, something staunchly
opposed by unionists, but demanded by the EU if there is not to be any customs
infrastructure on the NI/RoI border.
