Finance Minister Stanjura Fails To Reach Agreement With Municipalities Over Tax Measures

Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura said that he failed to reach agreement with municipal authorities over his fiscal consolidation measures during today's round of talks, but also expressed confidence that the two sides could find middle ground by the end of the month.

  • Representatives of cities, municipalities and regions insist that they should receive the entire revenue from the collection of property taxes and it should not be shared with the central government.
  • Seznam Zpravy reported that any change to the government's proposal would need to be budget-neutral, i.e. the loss in revenue for the central government would have to be compensated by shifts in the distribution of revenue from other taxes.
