Finland added 1.414GW of wind power capacity in 2024 – a 10.5% increase compared to volumes added in 2023, with 1.129GW under construction and expected online this year, data from the Finnish Wind Association show.

  • By year-end, Finland had 1,835 turbines and 8.358GW of total wind power capacity (see chart 1).
  • However, the average capacity of the installed turbines remained flat on the year (see chart 2)
  • North Ostrobothnia remains the top region for wind power, hosting nearly 40% of Finland's total capacity.
  • Wind power investments in 2024 exceeded €1.8bn.
  • The units under construction and expected online this year are owned by firms Ilmatar, Axpo, OX2, Energiequelle, S-Voima and Prime Capital.
  • If the wind farms can be commissioned on schedule it would increase Finland’s wind capacity to just under 9.5GW by year end.
