FinMin Domanski Says There's No Plan To Amend Budget, Monthly Data Dump Due Shortly

POLAND
  • Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski told Business Insider that the works on increasing the annual tax-free allowance are ongoing and the main parameters of a tax reform should be known by the end of this year. He noted that there are no plans to amend the 2024 budget, while half of Poland's borrowing needs should be already financed at end-March. He refused to say whether the current PLN level is optimal, but said that many institutions are forecasting its appreciation amid the inflow of EU funds. He also refused to comment on monetary policy or the proposals to put NBP Governor Adam Glapinski on trial.
  • Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski emerged from a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers noting that there was no progress in EU talks on financing the deliveries of ammunition to Ukraine. He described the situation in Ukraine as "dramatic" and said that it was "perhaps almost too late already."
  • Farmers are holding strikes and protests across the country today, demanding a withdrawal from the European Green Deal and limiting Ukrainian grain imports.
  • The first batch of Poland's January economic activity data will cross the wires at 09:00GMT/10:00CET. It will include wages, employment industrial output and PPI.
