US: Following the sixth Democratic presidential primary debate in Los Angeles,
CA last night, betting markets have shifted sharply towards former Vice
President Joe Biden.
- According to Betfair odds from BetData, Biden is now given an implied
probability of winning the Democrat nomination of 31.0%, from 25.3% before the
debate.
- This stands in contrast to other frontrunners, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth
Warren (down from 18.2% to 15.9%) and Mayor of South Bend, IN, Pete Buttigieg
(down from 12.0% to 10.3%). Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders declined marginally
from 16.8% to 15.9%.
- However, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, who was deemed to have been one of
the 'winners' of the debate, is seen by bettors as such an outside candidate for
the presidency that she is not included in Betdata's market due to the lack of
bets placed on her candidacy.
