Foreign Minister Lavrov in Beijing Ahead of North Korea Visit This Week

  • Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov will visit Beijing on October 16-18 during which he plans to conduct negotiations with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said. "While Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visits Beijing, which is expected to take place on October 16-18 on the occasion of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, his negotiations with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi are planned," the spokesperson said at a press briefing today.
  • Lavrov will then pay an official visit to North Korea, the Foreign Ministry said. "Lavrov will pay an official visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on October 18-19 at the invitation of the DPRK Foreign Ministry," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
  • Moscow and Beijing continue to develop cooperation in the energy sector with the volumes of Russian energy supplies to China growing, President Putin told China Media Group in an interview published on the Kremlin website that was cited by TASS. "We are working on and we are developing a significant number of industries, and this number has been constantly growing, especially recently, because of our cooperation on high-tech," Putin said.
