CHINA: Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China is against the U.S. "principle and
stance" of imposing unilateral trade sanctions on Chinese companies, according
to a statement posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on Monday. Wang
made the comments during his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson
on Sunday, during the 50th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting in Manila,
Philippines. Wang told Tillerson that China has made great efforts in tackling
the issue of the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, and that exerting
pressure on China or imposing trade sanctions is not the way to resolve the
problem. Wang said the U.S. should consider China's "suspension-for-suspension"
proposal -- which calls on North Korea to suspend its missile program and for
the U.S. to take a less aggressive stance toward North Korea.
