France Asks Airlines To Cut Flights on Thu-Sat, Kerosene Shortage Possible

France’s civil aviation authority asked airlines to operate reduced flight schedules on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday amid strikes over a retirement reform law according to DGAC.

  • A new round of strikes and demonstrations are planned for Thursday, leading to a 30% capacity cut at Orly airport outside of Paris, and a 20% reduction of air traffic at Marseille-Provence, Toulouse-Blagnac and Lyon-Saint Exupéry airports, the DGAC said.
  • The country’s civil aviation authority asked airlines to cut flights by 30% at Paris-Orly airport on Friday and by 15% on Saturday. Regional airports in Marseille, Bordeaux and Lyon were also asked to reduce flights.
  • Aéroports de Paris says it’s in talks with French authorities after strikes caused kerosene shortages in the Paris region.
  • Operator of Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports liaising with authorities to determine possible impact, ADP spokesman said.
  • The French government called kerosene situation in the Ile de France region, where Paris lies, “critical” due to strikes in Normandy’s refineries, AFP said.
