France To Meet 45GW Nuclear Target In January

French nuclear availability has been recovering and reached 44.22GW on 9 Jan, RTE data show.

  • French nuclear output stood at 74% of capacity, or 44.2GW, compared with 69% a week earlier, likely reaching the nuclear output target of 45GW set for January.
  • Higher nuclear availability and lower demand amid warmer temperatures has supported France’s power exports. France turned to a net power exporter on 19 Dec and has remained so since, expect for two days, RTE data show.
  • French power consumption is expected to peak at 72GW during the next seven days, RTE data show.
  • Milder weather has also boosted French gas storage injections in the last week of 2022. French gas storage levels stood at 82.4% of capacity as of 8 Jan.
  • Last year, France remained a power net importer, receiving 16.5TWh of net imports from neighbouring countries.
  • French nuclear output reached 278.3TWh last year, the lowest level since 1989, amid unplanned outages and maintenance delays.
