France’s RN to Remove Energy Regulator If Elected

POWER

France National Rally party said it would scrap the country’s energy regulator CRE if the party would be elected, RN spokesperson Jean-Philippe Tanguy told Montel.

  • There would be no need for a regulator under RN’s policy to exit the EU power market, the spokesman said.
  • “It’s not possible to abolish the CRE if we want to remain in the EU electricity market. All that would be possible is to merge its tasks with other bodies, such as the competition authority, for example, as is the case in Spain and Germany,” Nicolas Goldberg, an analyst at Colombus Consulting, told Montel.
  • “Leaving EU energy law is tantamount to leaving the EU immediately,” Arnaud Gossement, a lawyer specialising in energy, told Montel
  • “We would be in breach of the law because the CRE helps to set feed-in tariffs and organises calls for tenders for renewable energies,” Gossement added.
