French LNG Send Out Could Stay Low: Argus

LNG

French LNG regasification could remain at lower levels throughout August amid muted demand and a lack of remaining underground storage, according to Argus Media.

  • French aggregate gas demand is on track to be the lowest of any month since Nov. 2021, excluding March 2023 which was disrupted by strike action. Aggregate gas demand averaged 426 GWh/d on Aug. 1-15.
  • Consumption is muted due to tepid industrial demand and limited consumption in the power sector. The latter is likely to remain muted due to higher nuclear availability in H2 August.
  • Hot weather could also dampen demand until September, with forecasts expecting minimum temperatures to be at least 2C above seasonal norms.
  • Meanwhile storage capacity in France stands at 83.5% as of 15 August, GIE data show, below the 89.9% average for the EU, but ahead of the EU target of hitting 90% full by 1 Nov.
  • Current total LNG send out from French LNG terminals stands at 520.50 GWh/d.
