POWER: French Spot Power to Edge Down

The French spot power index is expected to edge down with forecasts for higher wind output, offsetting an increase in demand amid cooler weather. France March power is pulling back sharply with forecasts for milder weather to limit heating demand expectations.
- France Base Power MAR 25 down 4.3% at 85.74 EUR/MWh
- EUA DEC 25 down 1.7% at 78.91 EUR/MT
- TTF Gas MAR 25 down 6.1% at 52.25 EUR/MWh
- Nuclear availability in France was stable on the day at 81% of capacity as of Thursday morning, RTE data showed, cited by Bloomberg.
- EdF’s 1.62GW Flamanville 3 reactor is currently in test runs at 185MW of capacity until 14 Feb 06:00AM CET, before ramping up output to 240MW until 15 Feb 06:30AM CET and to 320MW until 16 Feb 00:00CET. Planned maintenance at 1.31GW has been further extended to return mid-day on Thursday.
- The latest two-week ECMWF weather forecast for Paris suggests mean temperatures have been revised higher to remain below the seasonal average until 18 February, before temperatures will rise well above normal.
- Mean temperatures in Paris are forecast to fall to 1.3C on Friday, down from 4.9C on Thursday and below the seasonal average of 5.1C.
- Power demand in France is forecast to rise to 66.77GW on Friday, up from 64.88GW on Thursday according to Bloomberg.
- Wind output in France is forecast to rise to 4.84GW during base load on Friday, up from 2.23GW on Thursday according to SpotRenewables.
- Residual load in France is forecast to edge down to 58.1GWh/h on Friday, down from 59.62GWh/h on Thursday according to Reuters.
- France’s hydro balance has been revised down on the day to end at -2.7TWh on 27 February, down from -2.53TWh a day earlier.
