Fresh Bid In Core Global FI, Cross-Asset Moves Still Eyed

BONDS

Momentum kicks back in as Bund, Gilt & TY futures move to fresh session highs in recent trade.

  • All 3 contracts remain within the ranges seen on Monday.
  • Gilts are the outperformer amongst the 3 markets, with some eying shallower than expected UK public sector borrowing figures for July.
  • Spanish & Italian paper has generally benefitted from the move in core global FI & equity markets, as well as regional CDS indices, allowing spreads vs. Bunds to compress.
  • News flow has been fairly light since London trade got underway, with plenty of participants pointing to typical summer market conditions and relatively low participation when it comes to the moves witnessed.
  • Confirmation of U.S. Commerce Secretary Raimondo’s impending trip to China did little for bonds but probably helped the rally in global equity benchmarks extend further.
