Funds Maintained Net Long TTF Positioning Last Week

NATGAS

GAS POSITIONING - Investment fund net long positioning in ICE TTF futures eased back slightly last week but is still near the most bullish since January 2022 according to the commitment of traders data for the week to May 31.

  • The positioning comes amid concern for tighter LNG supplies with competition from Asia and an increase in LNG imports by Egypt this summer as Europe slowly builds gas stores ahead of next winter.
  • TTF front month futures are ticking higher so far today after a pull back to levels seen mid last week with a clearer timeline for the return of Norwegian supply from unplanned outage which caused a price spike earlier this week.
  • Investment Firm net position increased by 25.49m to -90.48m
  • Investment Funds net position fell by 2.79m to +118.40m
  • Commercial Undertaking net position fell by 21.76m to -25.6m
