Futures Flat Overnight, GDP Data Eyed

JGBS

JGB futures finished the final overnight session of last week at unchanged levels when compared to their Tokyo settlement, generally tracking the broader swings in global core FI markets after the Tokyo bell.

  • Local headline flow is still being dominated by the political situation in Japan, even after Kishida’s reshuffle, with little in the way of a bounce in Kishida’s approval ratings evident.
  • Preliminary Q2 GDP data provides the highlight of the domestic docket on Monday (BBG median looks for a +0.7% Q/Q reading & +2.6% in annualised terms, vs. prior readings of -0.1% and -0.5%, respectively), with final industrial production and capacity utilisation data for the month of June also due.
