FY2025 Budget Released

WHITE HOUSE

The White House has published its FY2025 budget, a document that has little chance of being implemented in full but will serve as a plank of President Joe Biden's re-election campaign. No fewer than 16 fact sheetshave been published by the White House alongside the budget seeking to tout the benefits of the Biden plan for the economy.

As we noted in the MNI US Daily Brief earlier today, "The headline proposal in Biden’s budget is a major hike in corporation tax and a 25% minimum levy on billionaires – a reform which Biden argued in his SOTU would cut the deficit by USD$3 trillion over 10 years. The budget would also boost child tax credits and cut taxes for low- and middle-income families."

  • Despite the general improvement in the US economic landscape in recent months, the Biden administration has struggled to get its message through to voters, with many still responding in opinion polls that they feel poorer or less secure than they did under former President Donald Trump.
  • The Biden campaign has seen something of a minor revival in recent days following a well-recieved State of the Union address. Data from Smarkets gives Biden a 35.5% implied probability of winning the November election, up from a low of 26.7% on 11 Feb. Trump still leads, with a 48.1% implied probability of winning the election.
