  • Bloomberg run an article titled 'Hawkish Tone Matter Little as South Africa Outflows Quicken': "Foreigners have have been net sellers of South African equities for 18 consecutive sessions through Wednesday, the longest stretch of outflows since October 2008, pulling $1.53 billion from the local market. Non-residents have have also dumped the country's debt in nine of the past 11 trading days, with outflows totaling $864 million. "
  • The Gauteng province is swiftly approaching hospital bed capacity, with the region's 7,000 beds now 91% occupied. Projections see the region as needing as many as 9,500 beds for the third wave of infections. Authorities have stressed that the country has sufficient vaccine supply for the next five weeks.
  • Beleaguered utility Eskom has reduced its debt load to less than R400bln as negotiations continue over securing funding for a switch to green energy, although the Public Enterprises Minister said the exact number is still a "work in progress".
