Germany’s energy lobby BDEW has criticized a statement from the head of Germany’s AfD party Alice Weidel that they would order the dismantling of all wind power plants, if elected, it said.  

  • Alice Weidel further added that “wind power is a shame” during a party meeting.
  • BDEW head Kerstin Andreae called the statement destructive and stressed the added value of wind power to the economy, the high acceptance by the population and the success of wind power in reducing emissions.
  • German wind power accounted for 27% of Germany’s power demand in 2024, BDEW figures showed.
