German Feb Gas Demand 26.6% Below 2018-21 Average

German natural gas consumption stood at 2,984GWh/d in February, 26.6% below the 2018-2021 average, the largest monthly reduction in demand versus the average since September 2023, Bnetza data showed.

  • Gas demand in February 2023 stood at 3,360GWh/d.
  • February natural gas consumption from households and small businesses stood at 1,401GWh/d, below 2023 levels of 1,709GWh/d and the 2018-21 average of 2,046GWh/d.
  • Industrial gas use last month stood at 1,583GWh/d, 21.6% below the 2018-21 average and below 2023 levels of 1,651GWh/d.
  • Natural gas consumption last week stood 23.9% below the 2018-21 average. Demand rose by 3.8% on the week.
  • German natural gas inventories stood at 68% of capacity as of 5 March, down from 69.43% a week earlier, GIE data showed.
