German Gas Demand Fell 14.6% MoM in March

German gas consumption declined by around 14.6% in March, compared to February, amid milder weather, Bnetza data showed.

  • German gas consumption stood at 2870GWh in March, compared with 3359GWh in February.
  • German gas demand in March stood 17.7% below the 2018-21 average, compared with 17.4% in February.
  • Gas demand last week – calendar week 13 – stood 17.2% below the 2018-21 average but picked up 11.8% week on week amid colder weather.
  • German gas storage stood at 64.05% of capacity as of 4 April, modestly lower than a week earlier. Net storage injections in Germany have started since 18 March, while some days continue to see some net withdrawals mostly due to colder weather and higher gas demand.
  • Germany attempts to achieve a gas storage capacity of 75% by 1 Sep.
