German Gas Supply Not at Risk This Winter: Regulator

Germany has enough gas to make it through the winter season without risking a supply emergency according to the country’s network regulator speaking with Bild am Sonntag.

  • It said the focus is now on securing enough supplies for the 2023/24 period.
  • Gas prices, which soared during 2022 but have recently come down again, had reached a "plateau" level that would persist for the next 1-2 years according to network head Klaus Mueller.
  • He noted three short term price concerns: colder weather, higher Chinese demand and vulnerability of gas infrastructure.
  • Europe has benefitted from a mild winter this season, easing demand on gas supplies during the first winter without Russian gas supply.
