German Officials Counter Nuclear Power Plant Claims

Germany’s government has rebuffed WSJ reports yesterday that it had decided to postpone the closure of its last three nuclear plants, instead saying they would make the final decision once they received the results of ongoing stress tests.

  • The plants were due to be shut down at the end of this year.
  • “The government has not yet made any decision about how to deal with the three remaining German nuclear power plants after the end of this year,” a spokesperson said. “This will happen first in the wake of the results of the stress tests.”
  • The nuclear plants produce around 6% of German electricity.
