German Weekly Gas Demand Fell 23.9% Below 2018-21 Average

German natural gas consumption last week fell 23.9% below the 2018-2021 average, down by 1.8% on the week, amid mild weather and ongoing lower industrial output, Bnetza data showed.

  • Gas demand from households and small businesses fell to 1,045GWh/d last week, down from 1,112GWh/d the week prior. Demand was below the 2018-21 average of 1,565GWh/d but above 2023 levels of 1,017GWh.
  • Industrial gas use last week was mostly unchanged on the week at 2,562GWh/d but above 2023 levels of 2,287GWh. Demand remained well below the 2018-21 average of 3,367GWh/d.
  • Temperatures last week were 4.2°C above the 2018-21 average.
  • German natural gas reserves stood at 65.4% of capacity on 26 March, down from 65.99% a week earlier.
