Germany Adds 1.3GW of Onshore Wind in 1H24, But Set to Miss Target

Germany added 1.3GW of onshore wind in 1H24, lowering from 1.6GW added in the same period in 2023, with Germany set to miss its 2024 onshore wind target by around 3GW, data from BWE show.

  • A total of 250 turbines were added over January-June 2024, with the most plants located in the North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony states. Germany's onshore wind capacity is at 62GW at the end of June 2024.
  • Around 5.28GW was tendered in the 1H of this year, with 4.17GW awarded.
  • Some 4.8GW of capacity was approved, up 32% compared to 1H23.
