Germany Expected To Expend Lifespan Of Nuclear Facilities

According to Der Speigel, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck is expected to extend the lifespan of Germany's last two nuclear power plants this winter to counter energy supply bottlenecks.

  • Habeck: "We are already in a place where the stress test said: It may be necessary to use nuclear power plants for grid security," adding that the main risk is a "grid bottleneck."
  • Habeck: "It's not the amount on electricity but the distribution of power in the grid."
  • Germany had planned to phase out the use of nuclear power by the end of this year.
