Germany Must Install About 1 GW/Month of PV to Reach 2030 Target
POWER
Germany must maintain its monthly pace of installing around 1 GW/month of PV over the next seven years to meet its 215GW target by 2030, with solar capture rates likely to continue decreasing, according to energy analyst at the Albanian Energy Ministry, Julien Jomaux, said via LinkedIn.
- Germany’s PV generation in May was around 35 TWh – the highest this year and above any other month since at least 2020, according to Jomaux.
- The continued installation rate of PV capacity has led to solar capture rates declining fast, with the planned increase in solar capacity, it is unlikely that the trend will reverse.
- Because of this, support for solar will become more expensive, and it is unclear if a fall in project cost will be able to support PV projects. If not, financial support will be needed.
- And in Germany, 62% of solar energy is produced in only 15% of the hours- therefore having minimal impact on baseload hours and only peak. This concentration is less pronounced in more Southern latitudes like Spain.
