LNG

Germany is reviving plans for a land-based LNG import terminal in Rostock near the Baltic Sea, according to Winfried Krueger-Sprengel, liquidator of the previous project Rostock LNG Terminal.

  • The new project will have a capacity of 1bcm, Krueger-Sprengel added.
  • The Rostock Energy Terminal, the new project, is being set up and shareholders will be made public once the commercial registration is complete.
  • The new shareholders aim to take final investment decision on the terminal in 4Q 2023 and start operations in early 2026.
  • Germany’s RWE is still in discussions with the government about developing another LNG terminal, the utility said after a media report stated that it seeks to withdraw from the project on the Baltic Sea island of Ruegen.
