Germany's 2022 Energy Use Declines By 4.7%: AGEB

Germany’s primary energy consumption is targeting a 4.7% decline this year, amid high prices and increased investment in energy efficiency, industry statistics group AGEB said.

  • Total consumption declined 4.7% year on year to 403.6mn t of coal equivalent, or 11,839PJ, in 2022.
  • Natural gas consumption fell by 14.8% on the year to 2,814PJ, as surging gas prices led to some demand destruction.
  • Oil demand rose by 3% compared to 2021 levels to 4,159PJ.
