LNG
Germany's Wilhelmshaven LNG import facility is due to open Saturday.
- The floating regasification unit, the Hoegh Esperanza, is nearly there. The ship is going to be the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for the German Wilhelmshaven facility.
- Other LNG tankers will deliver LNG to Hoegh Esperanza, which can turn it back into gas and inject it into the German gas network.
- Hoegh Esperanza already has some LNG onboard itself according to ICIS, picked up in a reload from the Spanish port of Sagunto at the start of December.
- This looks set to be Germany's first operational LNG import facility.
- It is the second major new import facility for Europe since the energy crisis, following the Dutch EemsEnergyTerminal opened in the Netherlands in September.
