Gilts continue to march towards Friday highs

GILTS
  • Along with other core global FI markets, gilts continue to rally today, although still remain some way off the 1 July highs.
  • However, the move from the cycle high yield is substantial. Gilt yields with maturities of less than 15 years have all moved at least 60bp from their highs even longer-dated gilt yields have moved at least 45bp lower.
  • Gilt moves do seem very beholden to international factors at present, although we will hear from the MPC's Tenreyro later today as she speaks on a panel on monetary and fiscal policy interactions.
  • We are also due to hear from Huw Pill tomorrow morning in what could be an interesting keynote address on the role of central banks in a transforming world. Cunliffe's speech tomorrow is less likely to be market moving as he is due to discuss CBDCs.
