GILT SUMMARY: Gilts have opened lower with the 10-year part of the yield curve
seen leading the underperformance at 3.5bp higher at 1.414%
- Pressure is seen exerted by US Trump's tax reform plan that are seen as having
a greater chance of getting through congress added with Fed hawkish talk on
rates. While comments from BoE Haldane saying that we are "nearing a point" for
a rate hike and that should not be "a source of fear" and would be a "sign of
the economy healing", coupled with newswires reports of possible Brexit
concession from EU on transition talks, are also seen weighing on Gilts.
- A 2-day Bank of England 20-year independent conference starts today with
Governor Mark carney giving welcoming remarks at 0915BST. Main speaker today
will be US Fed Stanley Fischer at 1515BST.
- No data from the UK today so attention will be on German inflation, Eurozone
sentiment indicators, US Q2 GDP & personal consumption data.
- We are also expecting a press conference following latest round of Brexit
