Global Airline Capacity Down 0.4% on the Week: OAG

Global scheduled airline capacity in the week commencing Oct. 2 is set to fall by 0.4% on the week to 111.8m seats, according to OAG.

  • Global capacity is now 0.8% behind the same period in 2019.
  • Chinese carriers have reduced some domestic capacity this week amid a reduction in business travel during the ongoing national holiday. Capacity in Northeast Asia is down 246k seats this week.
  • European domestic capacity continues to drive the reduction in capacity, with a fall of 339k seats.
  • Counterbalancing the falls in Europe and China is North America, where airlines have increased capacity by 154k seats.
  • Global capacity is expected to settle around 105m seats per week when the IATA winter season begins. This will be approximately 1% below levels in winter 2019.
