Global LNG Spot Volumes Rose in 2023

The spot volume share in global LNG imports averaged 24% last year, up from 22% in 2022 according to BNEF.

  • NW Europe and Italy saw more spot deliveries last year as new terminals started operations and some long-term supply agreements expired. Lower LNG prices also led to more spot purchased in JKCT.
  • Global LNG net imports rose by 1.8% on the year to 399mn tons in 2023.
  • Total LNG supply rose by 2.3% on the year to 411.4mn tons in 2023, due to higher flows out of the US.
