Global LNG Supply to Fall in Q3: BNEF

LNG

Global LNG supply is expected to fall marginally in Q3 compared with Q2, according to BloombergNEF.

  • Supply in August could decline 2.6% month-on-month to 32.7m mt, with September expected to be around 32m mt also.
  • BNEF lowered its forecasted LNG volumes due to falling expectations for US output, led by the delay in commercial operations at Calcasieu Pass until late 2024.
  • Concerns around Egyptian output were also a factor. Egypt’s natural gas output fell to a three-year low between January and May 2023 amid production issues, while a summer heatwave is boosting domestic demand and reducing available gas supply for LNG exports.
  • BNEF expects Egyptian exports to recover in Q4. Egypt’s Energy Minister said in July that the country plans to resume LNG loadings in the autumn.
