GOP Gaining Ground In Pennsylvania

US

According to new data, the Republican Party has seen a surge of voter registration in the key battleground state Pennsylvania since the tight 2020 election win for President Joe Biden.

  • Pennsylvania voter registration data presented by conservative pollster Interactive Polls shows that Republicans have made a net gain of 117,905 in registered voters, significantly more than the 2020 margin of 80,555, when Biden won the state.
    • Registered voters: Nov 3, 2020: Democrats +686,893
    • Registered voters: April 5, 2022: Democrats +568,988
  • This data could have significant implications for the Pennsylvania Senate race in November - identified by Democrats as a potential flip as outgoing incumbent Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) won his second term in 2016 with a razor thin margin 48.8% to 47.3%.
  • A large mobilisation of Republican voters, as suggested by the registration data, could also deliver a major swing in the House of Representatives. Pennsylvania currently sends 9 Democrat and 9 Republican House Reps to Washington.
