Government May Unveil Pension Reform & Fiscal Consolidation Package Thursday

  • Seznam Zpravy reports that the government will announce the proposed pension reform plan and the fiscal consolidation package this Thursday at 10:55BST/11:55CEST. The original plan was to present each of the two legislative proposals separately, but Prime Minister Petr Fiala reportedly insisted on unveiling both during one big event. The newspaper notes that the final shape of the austerity package has not yet been agreed by all five coalition parties. Their leaders are set to meet this evening to iron out some differences over several contentious measures. They are expecting to face backlash from the public, which may test the cohesion of the ruling coalition.
  • Czechia's industrial output expanded by 2.4% Y/Y in March after a 2.0% increase in February, beating the +1.9% median estimate in a Bloomberg poll of economists. Trade surplus widened to +CZK15.9bn from +CZK14.9bn, exceeding the +CZK14.0bn consensus forecast.
