Government Ministers Due To Meet IMF Officials At G20 This Week

  • President Milei said that the head of the IMF mission, Rodrigo Valdes, worked with the previous government against his administration, according to a report in Clarin, citing a streamed interview. Milei added that the government has met the IMF’s goals, but that the truth needed to be told.
  • His comments follow other recent criticism of Valdes by the government, which prompted IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva to state earlier this month that she continues to have full confidence in the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Director. Government ministers are due to meet with IMF officials at the G20 finance ministers’ meetings, which start today in Rio de Janeiro.
  • Data wise, no macro data are due today, with attention this week on May wages figures and July consumer confidence, due to be released on Thursday. Meanwhile, the central bank’s new benchmark monetary policy instrument, known as Lefi notes, which will replace the one-day repo notes, are set to debut according to Bloomberg.
