Government Wants to Extend Ban on Ukrainian Grain Imports Until Year-End

  • The government wants to keep a ban on Ukrainian grain imports in place until year-end and is seeking to add restrictions on a wider selection of agricultural products, MTI report citing Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy. The EU accepted unilateral bans imposed on Ukrainian grain imports by Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria, according to Nagy, and an agreement will be reached soon to keep the restrictions in place.
  • The teachers’ strike against a government bill that would allow surveillance of work laptops, expand unpaid substitution and ban commenting on the education system continues today following demonstrations over the past few days.
  • Wage growth in Hungary rose 0.2% y/y in February versus +16.3% in January, data released by the Central Statistics Office this morning showed.
