Greece and Egypt Oppose Turkish and Libyan Exploration in east Med

Libya signed a preliminary energy exploration deal in the eastern Mediterranean with Turkey this week which has received push back from Greece and Egypt.

  • Greece and Egypt are opposed to any activity in disputed areas of the eastern Mediterranean.
  • Greece's foreign ministry said on Monday that Greece had sovereign rights in the area which it intended to defend "with all legal means, in full respect of the international law of the sea."
  • Egypt claim the current Libyan government does not have the authority to conclude any international agreements.
