POWER: Greece Raises Energy Storage Target to 4.7GW by 2030

The Greek Environment and Energy Ministry plans to raise the energy storage capacity in the country to 4.7GW by 2030 according to the country’s NECP, cited by Balkan Green Energy News.

  • Greece plans to install 3.8GW of standalone battery projects in the transmission network and 900MW in the distribution network.
  • The country has faced 3.5% of power generation curtailments in 2024 due to the increased renewable output. Curtailments are raising further this year.
  • “Last year we had 12% curtailments during the first days of March and now we are witnessing 20%”, Sotiris Kapelos, HELAPCO chairman said.
