Gulf of Mexico Pipelines Still Shut After Nov 16 Leak

Several Gulf of Mexico crude oil pipelines including one operated by Main Pass Oil Gathering Co. remain shut after an oil leak off the coast of Louisianna due to a subsea pipeline rupture according to a statement from the US Coast Guard.

  • The 26kbbl oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, discovered on Nov 16 forced six drillers to shut in production.
  • The USCG continues to search for the source of the leak. “Production will not resume until we can verify that the location of the release is secure and appropriate repairs have been made,” according to the statement.
  • Oil drillers such as Occidental Petroleum Corp, W&T Offshore Inc and Talos Energy had shut in 62kbpd of offshore production in late November following the US Gulf oil spill according to Bloomberg.
