Guterres Calls For Immediate Ceasefire To Allow For Negotiations

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine 'to allow for progress in serious political negotiations, aimed at reaching a peace agreement based on the principles of the United Nations Charter.'

  • Guterres' remarks come as Ukrainian and Russian ceasefire delegations have reportedly arrived in Istanbul to begin the second high-level ceasefire talks held in Turkey. Talks are expected to take place tomorrow and Wednesday but may be subject to delays.
  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba led the first round in Turkey in early March but it is unclear whether this weeks talks will be FM level.
