CZECHIA: Havlicek Says ANO Would Scrap "Ammunition Initiative" If Elected
CZECHIA
- ANO leader Andrej Babis outlined plans to implement measures to address the falling birth rate should his party take power after the election this autumn. The measures would be inspired by those introduced in Viktor Orban's Hungary, such as special housing programmes or student loan cancellations. According to a report in Seznam Zpravy, Czechia's fertility rate has been in sharp decline since 2021 after years of steady growth.
- Separately, ANO deputy leader Karel Havlicek called for scrapping the Czech-led initiative to provide Ukraine with ammunition amid its ongoing efforts to repel the Russian invasion. Although he has been technically designated "shadow Prime Minister," Havlicek said that he is not sure whether he would actually become Prime Minister if ANO won the election.
- The CNB's Bank Lending Survey for 4Q2024 showed that "non-financial corporations’ demand for loans as perceived by banks rose in more than half of the banking market, the highest increase since 2021. Demand for housing loans and consumer credit increased again, but less broadly than in the previous period."
- The Finance Ministry sells 2043 floating-rate bonds today.
