Headline HICP Tracks A Tenth Above Consensus At 2.6%

EUROPEAN INFLATION

Eurozone headline flash HICP inflation tracks at 2.6% Y/Y, based on MNI’s calculations using already-released national data.

  • The consensus before Wednesday’s German flash inflation data stood at 2.5% Y/Y.
  • This follows the latest firmer-than-expected HICP reading from France (2.7.% Y/Y vs 2.6% cons).
  • The above tracking assumes that Italian (0.7% Y/Y) HICP prints in line with consensus later today.
  • There is less visibility on where core HICP is tracking, with most countries not reporting that metric in the flash release.
  • However, a number of analysts suggested that consensus forecasts of 2.7% Y/Y remained intact following yesterday’s Spanish data.
  • ECB-dated OIS contracts saw little net change following the French data, showing 60bps of cuts through the remainder of 2024.
