US TSYS: Headlines re: Sino-U.S. trade, North Korea, U.S. impeachment &
Turkey/Syria all helped to support safe havens, although Chinese & HK holidays
ltd liquidity. T-Notes looked at Friday's high, but never managed to convince
bulls, softening to -0-03+ at 131-25+. Light bull steepening on the curve.
- Dissenting Fed hawk George offered little new on the MonPol front, stressing
that the U.S. econ is in a good place, while tipping her hat to various,
well-discussed risks. Elsewhere, Fed's Rosengren told MNI that he "sees a
standing repo facility among options to address squeezes in repo markets." He
also noted that another way of providing liquidity would be purchases of
short-maturity gov't debt, which would be "a technical adjustment reflecting the
fact that reserves have become a little bit too tight." Rosengren noted that
"the goal (of such moves) would not necessarily be to change the financial
conditions, but actually just to reflect the tightness in the reserve market."
As a reminder, Friday saw the NY Fed extend its overnight repo facility into
Nov, with various term ops (6 to 15 days) also scheduled over that horizon.
- Fed's Kashkari is due today, with brief remarks from Chair Powell also slated.
