Hochul Rise In New York Could Signal Democratic Shift To Center Ground

Moderate Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) looks set for 'reelection' in November's gubernatorial elections. Hochul has only been governor since assuming the seat after Andrew Cuomo's resignation in August '21 but there are already murmurings that her successes in New York may provide credibility for the Democratic Party to shift into the moderate center ground, away from the leftist leanings of the past few election cycles.


  • Many had written Hochul off as a temporary stopgap in the wake of the Cuomo scandal but she now looks a shoo-in for November.
  • She has a commanding lead in the polls and has raised a record amount for her election campaign. She has also had a number of high profile successes with Covid-19 and a strong budget surplus.
