Hoegh Galleon FSRU Expected in Egypt on June 12

LNG

The Hoegh Galleon FSRU to be used as an LNG import facility for Egypt based at Ain Sukhna is headed to Egypt after leaving the Sagunto LNG terminal in Spain during the weekend.

  • The vessel is expected to arrive at Egypt’s Port Said on June 12, AIS data shows, after possibly reloading a cargo at the Spanish terminal.
  • Egypt has chartered the FSRU vessel from June 2024 to February 2026 to facilitate direct LNG imports to meet summer cooling demand to escape extreme heat and with local production slowing.
  • Egypt was last week reported to be planning to issue a buy tender seeking 15-20 cargoes of LNG to cover rising demand with 20 LNG cargoes expected to be imported over the summer.
  • So far, the country has bought at least four shipments for delivery to Jordan, from where it’s rerouted to Egypt.
