Home Sec Makes Statement On Security Following Chinese 'Spy' Revelation

UK

Home Secretary Priti Patel is delivering a statement to the House of Commons on security following the revelation from MI5 that Christine Lee, a lawyer who had donated large amounts to a Labour MP, was an operative of the Chinese Communist Party.

  • Patel's statement said that “This type of activity has recently become more common with states operating covertly to interfere with our democracy", and that alerts about individuals with close ties to foreign powers can be expected "to become more commonplace".
