Homeland Party Criticised for Splitting Opposition Vote

  • The main opposition presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu is expected to visit the Homeland Party this week and ask for support, Hurriyet report. Muharrem Ince, the chairman of the Homeland Party, drew criticism for attempting to “split” the opposition after he received more than 100,000 signatures, a requirement to be put on the list of official presidential candidates. The incumbent President Erdogan, Nation Alliance’s Kemal Kilicdaroglu and far-right ATA Alliance’s Sinan Ogan are the three other official candidates.
  • Speaking to Ekonomi newspaper, Erich Arispe, Director Fitch Ratings, said that the monetary policy implemented by the CBRT and the frequent new regulations negatively affect the profitability and potential asset quality and increase risks by causing fragilities in the banking sector. “We expect inflation to maintain its high course and the problems regarding access to and cost of external financing will continue”, he said.
  • The central bank holds its annual shareholders meeting today at 1200BST/1400 local time in Ankara. There are no major data releases scheduled.
