House Field Hearing On LNG Export Ban Underway Shortly

US

The GOP-led House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a field hearing in Port Arthur, Texas shortly to discuss President Biden’s LNG export pause.

  • A hearing memo notes: “The Biden administration’s decision to ban the review and issuance of additional LNG export licenses has harmed the U.S. economy, jobs, and the nation’s energy security, both directly and indirectly," adding that a number of states have filed suit to block the export ban, "alleging that the ban violates the Natural Gas Act and decades of DOE policy and precedent. The filing also outlines the negative economic impacts and job losses that could occur if the ban is not lifted.”
  • The LNG export ban has become a major political issue for the GOP in recent week. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is expected to include language to reverse the ban in his plan for Ukraine/Israel supplemental funding.
  • Rep Randy Weber wrote in a Fox News op-ed over the weekend: "We are over 1,000 days into President Joe Biden's term, and it has been an all-out assault against American energy. The latest and most-alarming offensive against Southeast Texas is the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export ban put in place by a president who is hyper-focused on killing the very industry that keeps my district's lights on."
